Glass type, single fiber diameter, long mass in conventional units "TEX", twist direction and number of turns per meter long. Type of impregnator and book type.
Glass fiber E
Also known as electrical glass (Electrical glass) due to its high electrical insulation properties, it contains low alkali content, in the composite layer structure shows very good mechanical strength and long life. Thanks to that feature, E glass fiber is most commonly used in all types of fiberglass, in all fields with a wide range of products, including civil and military boats.
Another basic reason is that while other fibers are very expensive and are limited in application, E glass is the cheapest. For example, compared to fiberglass E, C costs 2 times, R times 4 times, S costs 6 times, and D costs 15 times.
Type A glass (Alkali glass)
This is alkaline glass, a little lighter than E type, and nearly the same durability. It has previously been used in composite products. However, because it contains a lot of alkali (NaOH, KOH), it is easy to work with moisture, so the waterproofing is much less than that of E. Therefore, people today do not use for composite products anymore. But it produces AR (Alkali resistant) glass which is alkali resistant, applied to all composite products in alkaline environment.
C Glass (Chemical Glass)
Very chemically resistant glass, typically acid resistant. They are used to create the outermost layer of the composite to resist chemical corrosion. For example: acid tanks, pipes, structures in chemical plants, battery covers, etc.
R, S glass
Glass of high mechanical strength even at high temperatures up to 250oC. It has very high tensile strength. The duration of fatigue stress, and life expectancy is 8-10 times more expensive than E-grade glass but 5 to 7 times more expensive. This glass is mainly used for special purposes such as aviation, military, space. However, due to the high cost, it is not used much.
D glass
As glass has good dielectric properties, the permeability of electronic waves is very high. Therefore, it is applicable to manufacturing electronic materials and components, for example: radar, radar canopy, ... This is a very expensive glass (15 times the value of type E).
Glass fiber product symbol
The standard specification for the fiberglass trade mark must address the following issues:
Glass type, single fiber diameter, long mass in conventional units "TEX", twist direction and number of turns per meter long. Type of impregnator and book type.
Example symbol: EC 10 40S 20 T3
Meaning: Continuous E glass fiber, single fiber diameter is 10µm, weight 40TEX, (1TEX = 1g / km), left twist direction, number of turns 20, T3 impregnated type.
